Google Hangouts is a great tool for group chats and video conferences. You might use Hangouts to faciliate group projects, host a guest speaker, or hold virtual office hours.
Use the guide below for more information about getting started with Google Hangouts:
Accessing Google Hangouts
In order to use Hangouts, you will need to be logged into a Google account and activate your Google+ profile. Once logged in, you can find Hangouts from the bottom of your Gmail inbox, or in the upper right of Google+.

Make sure you are logged into the Google account that you want to use for the call. See the instructions here for switching between Google accounts.
Getting Started
If you are using Google Hangouts for the first time, you will need to download a plugin. It is best to do this ahead of time so that you don't have to wait for it to download while you are trying to start your session.
Use the "Before you start your first video call" instructions here to make sure that your browser is appropriately setup to access your mic and video camera.
Note: If you are running Google Hangouts from the resident computer in Annenberg G02, 303, or 317, it will automatically use the room camera & mics for the conference.
Inviting Participants
To start a video hangout, select the person you want to include (or check the boxes in front of multiple names) and click the video icon.

Once you've started a hangout, you can invite participants either by sharing the link or inviting them by email.

Note: There is a limit of 10 participants in a Google Hangout video chat.
Using Google Hangouts
There are a variety of features you can use within a Hangout, including chat, screensharing, and more.

Under "More Apps" you can find a variety of apps to add-in to your Hangout, including Remote Desktop abilities, collaborative Google Doc editing, and a variety of games & productivity tools.
Troubleshooting
You can mute and unmute yourself and others by clicking the microphone button.

If you are experiencing issues with the video or sound quality, it could be because of your internet connection or computer. Adjusting the bandwith may help - you can do so by clicking the bandwidth icon. For more information about adjusting the bandwith setting, click here.

Hangouts on Air
Hangouts on Air allow you to broadcast your Hangout to YouTube, as well as to record the session for later viewing.
