Blue Jeans is a videoconferencing service currently being piloted at Northwestern. Through this pilot period (until May 2016), all faculty, staff, and students with a valid NetID will have access to the Blue Jeans tool.
Why would I use Blue Jeans?
The Blue Jeans videoconferencing tool makes it easy to host virtual meetings and conferences. Some key features of Blue Jeans include:
Allows up to 100 endpoints/users
High-resolution content sharing and screen sharing
Live chat enabled
Meetings can be recorded
Participants do not need a Blue Jeans account (can invite users from both inside and outside university)
Getting Started
You can login to Blue Jeans with your NetID at: https://northwestern.bluejeans.com. The first time you log in or connect to a Blue Jeans meeting using a new device, you will need to download the Blue Jeans plug-in, which may take a few minutes. (Recommended browsers include Safari, Internet Explorer, and Firefox; Chrome v.42 is currently not compatible with some features of Blue Jeans)
Schedule a Meeting
Scheduled vs. Personal Meetings: Each user has a personal meeting setup in their account, which can be used for on-the-fly conferencing. You can customize this meeting ID and it will never expire. Personal meetings are a good option for office hours or personal meetings. Scheduled meetings are used when you're planning a one-time or recurring meeting. The benefit of scheduled meetings are that you can send a customized invitation and choose your settings specifically for that meeting.
Schedule a meeting:
Click "Schedule Meeting" and follow the step-by-step instructions to schedule a meeting. You will specify the meeting details, including date, time, and personalized invite messages. You can also select settings for the conference under "Advanced Meeting Options", including auto-recording, chat messaging, etc. You can send the meeting invite directly from Blue Jeans by entering your participants' email addresses in the "Invite Participants" field or you can leave this blank and you will receive an automated email from BlueJeans Network with connection details including a URL to access the meeting. This information can then be forwarded or shared with meeting participants (be sure not to share the moderator passcode).
Attend a Meeting
There are two ways to attend a Blue Jeans meeting; using the URL received in the meeting email invitation, or directly from within your Blue Jeans account. A Blue Jeans account is not required to attend a meeting.
Connecting to the Meeting: When logging into a meeting, you will be given several connection options. To connect from your computer, we recommend using the Blue Jeans App, rather than the Browser option, for the highest quality. You can also connect to the meeting via a mobile device by downloading the Blue Jeans app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

Audio/Video Settings: When joining the meeting, choose whether you want to use VOIP or phone audio, and whether you want to use your webcam. (You can always turn your webcam on/off later). If you choose to connect via phone, you will need to enter the Meeting ID and moderator code (if you are the meeting owner/moderator).
During the Meeting (Meeting Controls)
Inside a Blue Jeans meeting, you will see the main screen, where participants' webcams or content will appear, as well as a side panel, from which you can see a list of participants, the chat pod, your settings, and more.

Recording a Meeting
Recording a Meeting: When setting up a meeting, you choose to have it auto-record, or you can start and stop a recording from within a meeting. During the meeting, the record button can be found on the bottom of the side panel. Participants will be notified when recording has started and stopped. Note: recording can only be enabled by the meeting moderator.
Accessing Recordings: Once a recording has finished processing, moderators will receive an email that the recording is ready. You can access the recording by clicking the link found in this email or by click "Recordings" from the menu at the top of your Blue Jeans account (https://northwestern.bluejeans.com). Click to view, download, or share a link to your recording. Blue Jeans will only allow you to store up to 5 hours of recorded meetings in your account, so if you expect to exceed this, be sure to download your recordings and delete them from your account.
